Drosera Homaccard® (30 ml)

For the temporary relief of croupy cough, spasmodic cough and cough with congestion.

Homaccords are preparations which contain one or several active substances in respective potency chords. Usually a low potency is combined with a medium potency and a higher potency. The background of this potency combination is the nearly 100-year-old therapeutic experience that the simultaneous administration of low, medium, and higher potencies causes a reduction of the initial aggravation. As is known, initial aggravations occur particularly often during the administration of higher potencies given individually. Homaccords are available as attenuations for oral administration. This multipotent form, among other applications, is particularly appropriate for treating chronic illnesses.

Family Name: Droseraceae.

Other Names: Sundew; rossolis à feuilles rondes (French); Rundblättriger Sonnentau (German); rosolida, rorella (Italian).

Plant Parts: Dried, whole plant, including the above and below-ground parts.

Therapeutic Category: Antispasmodic, antitussive.

Uses and Properties: The herb is used in phytotherapy to treat whooping cough (especially dry and chesty cough) and is an ingredient of proprietary cough syrups.

Traditional Use: Internally as a spasmolytic and antidyspeptic; externally to treat skin disorders.

Active Ingredients: Drosera contains naphthoquinones, of which ramentaceone and plumbagin are usually the main compounds (in D. rotundifolia and related species, at a level of up to 1% of the dried product). D. ramentacea contains ramentaceone and some plumbagin but in quite low concentrations, while D. peltata has plumbagin and droserone as the main compounds.

Pharmacological Effects: Sundew is anti-inflammatory, spasmolytic and prevents bronchospasms. The naphthoquinones are known to be broncholytic and secretolytic, thus providing relief from a dry cough. Plumbagin is antibiotic at low concentrations and cytotoxic at high concentrations.

Indications: Whooping cough, bronchiolitis, bronchitic asthma.

Composition: Oral drops. Each 30 ml contains: Drosera rotundifolia 4X, 10X, 30X, 200X, Cuprum aceticum 6X, 10X, 30X, 200X 0.5 ml each in an isotonic sodium chloride solution base.
